LEICESTER-Joseph J. Niewiera, 56, died Sunday, April 23rd in Saint Vincent Hospital. He leaves his wife, Alice A. (Sweeney) Niewiera and a daughter, Kristen Price Niewiera both of Leicester, a stepdaughter, Erica-Ann Berger of Lowell, his father, Walter Niewiera, Sr. and a brother, Walter Niewiera, Jr. both of Worcester, a granddaughter, Annabell Josephina Rose, and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol Schoof.
He was born in Worcester, the son of the late Elizabeth (Price) Niewiera and graduated from Worcester Boys Trade School. Mr. Niewiera had been a firefighter for the City of Worcester for 20 years, retiring in 2003 and had also worked as a ranger for Kettlebrook Golf Club in Leicester. He was a member of Firefighters Local 1009 and was an avid golfer.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Thursday, April 27th from 4:00 until 8:00 PM in the O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Worcester Fireman’s Relief Association, 27 Wayne Street, Worcester, MA 01603.
