Richard J. “Dick” O’Connell, age 67, of Brockton, passed away January 5, 2022 at Brockton Hospital. Lifelong of Brockton, he was the son of the late Robert and Florence (Joyal) O’Connell.
Dick was a graduate of Southeastern Regional Vocational Technical High School and was an electrician for many years with IBEW Local 223 eventually becoming a Master Electrician. He later worked for the Brockton Public School Department from where he recently retired.
Dick was an easy going, witty and funny man who enjoyed many aspects of life. He was a Professional Candlepin Bowler who appeared many Saturday mornings on Channel 5's Candlepin Bowling with Don Gillis. He was inducted into the Candlepin Hall of Fame in 2008. He was an avid golfer and member of the Brockton Country Club and enjoyed boating, pool, darts, watching sports, and gathering with his many friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his children Kati Pike and her husband Matthew of Dartmouth and Adam O’Connell and his wife Ericka of East Bridgewater. He was the grandfather of Helena, Madison, and Matthew Pike and the brother of Robert O’Connell of Bridgewater with whom he shared many of his hobbies throughout the years. Dick is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday, January 12, from 4-7pm. For the safety of others, please wear a mask when inside the funeral home. An 11am Graveside Service will be held Thursday, January 13 at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
