Hollis Wayne Palmer, 74, of Ojai, CA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on
December 25, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family. Hollis “Wayne” was born at
Long Beach Naval Hospital in Long Beach, CA, to Hollis Ray Palmer and Francis Sue
Palmer, on August 1, 1947.
He went to high school at Santa Fe High School in Norwalk, CA and graduated in 1965.
He met his sweetheart, Susan “Suzy” Herman, in 1965 and they were married October
4,1968. They just celebrated 53 amazing years of marriage in October. He was in the
U.S. Navy from 1967 until he retired in 1987 as a Chief Petty Officer. During those years
he was stationed in Boardman, OR, Long Beach, CA, Barbers Point NAS, HI, Point
Mugu, CA, San Diego, CA and back to Point Mugu, CA. He was an Air Traffic Controller
for Air Force 1. He then worked in civil service at Point Mugu Base, where he was an
RCO, Range Control Officer, until he retired in 2009. He was a loyal member of the
American Legion in Ojai, Post Number 482. He was Vice President of the Ventura
County Corvette Club for the last 5 years. He enjoyed NASCAR, Motorcycles,
Corvettes, shooting guns, gardening, camping with the family, fishing and hanging out
with his grandsons. He was an avid sports car racer in which held 4 track records that
still stand today.
Hollis “Wayne” is survived by his wife, Susan “Suzy” Diane Palmer of Ojai, CA.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Suzy Palmer, are his oldest son William “Bill” Palmer
and his wife, Marianne Palmer, his youngest son, Jeffery Palmer and his wife Tanya
Palmer, Grandchildren, Matthew Palmer and his wife Rose, Harley Palmer, Nicole
Palmer, Nolan Palmer and Brianne Palmer. He is also survived by his loyal dog La
Koda “Koda” whom he loved and adored.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29 th at
Redemption Church, 190 E El Roblar Dr., Ojai, with a Reception to follow at The
American Legion of Ojai Post Number 482, 843 E Ojai Ave., Ojai. All are welcome to
attend and celebrate Wayne’s Life. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH
P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
