Bridgewater- Armand E. Martel, 71, of Bridgewater, formerly of Quincy, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Bernice E. (Hurlbert) Martel.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Ange Martel and Antoinette (LaFrance) Martel.
He graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1953, and worked as a Compositor for the Boston Globe for 35 years, retiring in 1996.
Mr. Martel lived in Bridgewater for 17 years, coming from Quincy, where he lived for many years.
He enjoyed square dancing and bowling and was an Elder at the Edgewood Church of Christ in Mansfield.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Linda Chace of Florida, James Martel of Weymouth, Carol Kinan of Pembroke, Donna Driscoll of Kingston, Irene Schmitz of Methuen and Michele Chiaramonte of Berkley; a sister, Marie J. Loftus of Randolph; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Paul Martel and Jacqueline Walsh.
A Memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 A.M. in the Edgewood Church of Christ, 26 Edgewood Street (Off South Main Street), Mansfield. Visiting hours are Monday 2-4 and 7-9 in the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford Street, (Rt18) Bridgewater.
