Joao "Irene" Spinola, 93, of New Bedford died January 6, 2022 peacefully at CareOne at New Bedford.
He was the husband of the late Sarah Santos (Lobo) Spinola.
Born in Fogo, Cape Verde, son of the late Manuel and Sufia (Centeio) Spinola, he has lived in New Bedford since 2003.
Survivors include his 2 sons, Camilo Santos Lobo Spinola and his wife Maria of Cape Verde and Manuel Antonio Santos Lobo Spinola of New Bedford; 5 daughters, Maria "Zinha" Alves and her husband Jose, Maria Isabel Dosouto and her husband Jose, Maria Fatima Mendes and her husband Lionel, and Louisa "Caca" Tavares and her husband Raimundo, all of New Bedford, Maria "Djudju" DePina and her husband Gabriel of Roxbury; 4 brothers, Agnelo Spinola, Augusto Spinola and Antonio Spinola, all of Holland and Juvinal Spinola of Fogo; a sister, Joana Spinola of Boston; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was the grandfather of the late Carlos Alexander Dosouto.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, January 10th from 4-8 PM.
