Obituary

Maria dos Reis Cabral Goes, 95 of Lowell, passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late Antonio da Silva Goes who passed away in 1980 after 25 years of marriage.

She was born on January 6, 1926 in Ponta do Sol, Madeira Island, Portugal and was a daughter of the late João Rodrigues Cabral and the late Maria Antonia Dos Santos Cabral. She was raised in Madeira Island, where she attended the area schools. She also held various employment roles at Commodore Foods and Wang Laboratories in Lowell prior to her retirement.

In 1960, Maria dos Reis immigrated to the United States, settling in Lowell. She raised her family in the Back Central Street neighborhood and was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church. She was a devout Catholic where she would recite the Rosary daily. She was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers that she loved to share with her family and friends. She loved when family visited and was always ready to offer food and drink. She helped raise not only her children but also her grandchildren so that they could be with family. She loved traveling back to her homeland Madeira Island where her roots began and held many special memories.

Maria do Reis is survived by her eight children, Nelson Goes and his wife, Margarida of Tyngsboro, Anthony Goes and his wife, Debbie of Londonderry, NH, Joaquim Goes and his wife, Claudia of Londonderry, NH, Grace Maurice and her husband, John of Derry, NH, Tobias Goes of Pelham, NH Maria Papadimoulis and her husband, Demetrios of Pelham, NH, Robert Goes of Pepperell, MA, and Orlando Goes of Pelham, NH. She is also survived by her grandchildren (Nelson Goes, Katherine Gugliotta, Dawne Marie Swietek, Antonio Goes, Ashley Hoffman, Joaquim A Goes, Joshua Goes, Stephen Maurice, Lauren Maurice, Constantinos Papadimoulis, Alexandria Papadimoulis, Nichole Goes, Evan Goes, Rebecca Goes, Ryan Goes, Kathleen Goes, Daniel Goes, Isabel Goes); her step-grandchildren (Jennifer Burgess, Erin Chase, Richard Beaudin, and Ryan Murphy); and great grandchildren (Braedon Goes, Gabriella Goes, Jacob Goes, Adam Swietek, Chloe Goes, Antonio Goes, Ava Gugliotta, Myles Hoffman, Lola Grace Hoffman); her step-great-grandchildren Julianne Beaudin, Lia Burgess, Kaelyn Murphy, and Myles Chase); and many nephews and nieces in Portugal as well as in the USA.

Maria dos Reis is preceded in death by her sisters Maria Dos Santos Cabral Barreto, Maria Isabel Cabral, Antonia Cabral Silva and her brothers Jose Cabral, João Cabral, Manuel Cabral and nephew Alcino Cabral Barreto.
                 
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, her funeral will take place privately with the immediate family. Her funeral service will be live streamed for virtual attendance on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at: McDonough Funeral Home Facebook Link viewing will also be available after the service is complete. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery.
