PARSONSFIELD – Don Holland, 71 of Parsonsfield passed away on January 4, 2022, at his home with his loving wife by his side. Don fought a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Don is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marilyn (Harmon) Holland, a son Dustin Holland and his wife Teresa of Bentonville, Arkansas, a sister Nancy Fleming and her husband George of Baden, PA, a brother Bernie Swain who preceded him in death in 1995, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Brenda & Pat O’Brien of Tucson, Arizona & brother-in-law & sister-in-law Larry & Carol Harmon of Seward, Alaska. He leaves behind many beloved nephews & nieces, 3 granddaughters, one great grandson & a great granddaughter on the way.
Don was born May 11, 1950, to Don & Betty Holland. He attended local schools. After a brief stint in the Air Force, he moved to Alaska in 1974 to be closer to his brother who was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska.
He met his wife in Seward, Alaska. They were married in 1979. Don worked for many years as General Manager of the Breeze Inn Motel, Restaurant & Gift Shop of Seward, Alaska. In 2009, they made the final move back to Maine where his wife is originally from. Once in Maine and not quite ready to retire yet, he worked for the Maine Turnpike Authority as a toll booth collector which he enjoyed very much.
Being a man from just outside Pittsburgh Pa, he was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Very seldom did you see him without a steeler shirt on & waving the terrible towel during the games.
He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 5 and the Portland Elks lodge. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church.
His other interests were playing cards with his good friends Paul & Kristin, camping, road trips & taking cruises. He & his wife (usually with a dog or two) had visited all 50 states and many trips to Canada and a couple of trips to Mexico.
He was a good man, fun to be around & easy going. He will be missed by all & was loved by many.
A memorial service will be held on Friday Jan. 14 at 2 PM at the Riverside United Methodist Church, in Kezar Falls.
