Obituary

WORCESTER – Dorothy E. “Pat” (Degnan) Curry, 90, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 after a period of declining health. Her husband of 43 years, Francis W. “Fran” Curry, died in 1996.

She leaves 2 sons, William F. Curry of Worcester with whom she lived and Michael J. Curry and his wife Linda of Plymouth; 2 daughters, Margaret A. Grant and her husband James of Fresno, CA, and Carole A. McRell of Port Charlotte, FL; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald V. Degnan and his wife Carol of Oxford; a son-in-law, Robert Govoni of Northborough; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Kathleen M. Curry in 2016 and Dianne M. Govoni in 2019 and by a son-in-law, Robert McRell in 2018.

She was born on September 9, 1931 in Long Island, NY, the daughter of Joseph E. and Stella S. (Palmer) Degnan and attended St. Peter’s High School and Commerce High School. She also studied at Quinsigamond Community College. She lived in Worcester, Auburn, Webster, Millbury and Oxford before moving back to Worcester last year.

Pat worked as a money counter at Mass. Transport in Marlboro for a short time. She was a telephone service representative at Commerce Insurance Company in Webster for 12 years before retiring in 2009.

She was a member of Saint Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury and a former member of Saint Anthony’s Church in Dudley. She enjoyed traveling and time spent with her family.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday, January 8, at noon in Saint Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in her name may be made to Saint Anne’s Medical Health Clinic, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545 or to LaSalette Shrine, 947 Park St., Attleboro, MA 02703. Arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster.
