Gerald W. Bento, 67, of Port St. Lucie, FL, died unexpectedly with his daughter by his side on Sunday, December 19, 2021 after a motorcycle accident. He was the former husband of Donna Roderiques.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late William and Hilda (Neves) Bento, he lived in New Bedford most of his life before retiring to Florida.
Gerald worked as an electrical engineer for 25 years at the MBTA. He was very handy, and built most of his cars and motorcycles himself. Gerald loved riding his motorcycle with his friends and was a member of many clubs. He enjoyed music, boxing, martial arts, and was an avid collector of many things. Gerald was a family man, and a community advocate for all. He served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his daughter, Krystal Bento and her fiancé Joseph Cruz; his siblings, John and Khrystyne Bento; grandchildren, Maxwell and Zayden; 3 Godchildren, Sky Bento, Kevin Rose and Eddie Maldonado; and many nieces; nephews; and family and friends from New Bedford, Rhode Island, and Florida.
He is predeceased by his brother William Bento.
Gerald's memorial visitation will be held Sunday, January 9th 2022 from 4 to 7 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Friends and family are invited to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 PM on Monday, January 10, 2022 for the funeral procession to the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
