SANDWICH, NH ---- Lorraine M. McMahon, 90, died Friday, December 10, 2021, at Belknap County Nursing Home in Laconia, NH. Lorraine was with her husband of over 60 years, Philip McMahon, when she passed.
Born on July 9, 1931, in Boston, MA, to Arthur and Gertrude (Murphy) Ahern, she grew up in Charlestown, MA. She loved to tell stories about growing up there. She had two brothers, Arthur "Buddy" and Donald Ahern, and one sister Gertrude (Ahern) DeFilippo. She was very close to Gertrude who she spent most weekends listening to Roy Orbison and going to thrift shops. She moved to Wilmington, MA, where she had three children, and then moved to Lowell, MA, where she resided for 26 years. She eventually retired in NH, buying an island on Winnipesaukee, and eventually moved to the mainland in Sandwich, NH. Lorraine spent her retirement with her husband going on many cruises, trips to Myrtle Beach, shopping at second-hand shops, and visiting with the grandkids. She drove hours to watch her grandson's hockey and baseball games. She never missed the Elvis shows at Myrtle Beach and was known to parasail in her later years. She was also known for her passion for islands and either owned or bought land on three of them in her lifetime.
At 76, Lorraine was voted one Dove's "Most Beautiful People Over 50" published in People Magazine's "100 Most Beautiful" edition in 2007.
Lorraine will be missed by her husband Philip M. McMahon, as well as children and grandchildren; daughter Lori McMahon of Lexington, MA, and her son Collin; Lawrence McMahon, and his wife Judy, and son Ryan and daughter Sydney, also of Lexington, MA. She is predeceased by her parents and her son Philip W. McMahon of Ecuador.
