John "Nonnie" Gilmette, 78, of New Bedford died Sunday, January 2, 2022 unexpectedly at St. Luke's Hospital.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late John Reis Gilmette and Agnes (Torres) Grace, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
John honorably served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960-1964.
He was formerly employed as a finish drywall installer for many years until his retirement.
John enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears.
He is survived by 5 sons, John Gilmette, Jr., Jody Gilmette, Kevin Pina, Cory Pina, and Shawn Pina and his wife Leah; his daughter, Jaime Pina and her fiancé Dion Santos; his brother Ralph Gilmette; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a niece.
His funeral will be held Monday, January 10, 2022 at 8:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
