Obituary

Joseph C. “Joe” Broderick, of Ashland, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the Newton Wellesley Hospital after being stricken ill at his residence.
He was born in Boston on March 2, 1939 the son of the late Thomas F. Broderick and Mary G (McDonough) Broderick.
Joe was the beloved husband for 54 years of Geraldine M. “Gerri” (Gerah) Broderick of Ashland, formerly of Natick, Avon and Milton. Devoted father of Karen M. Betancourt and her husband Javier of Wayland and the late Debra A. “Debbie” Broderick who died on February 5, 1995. He was the brother of Frances M. Jacoby of North Reading and the late John W. Broderick and Thomas F. Broderick. He was the cherished grandfather of Abigaile D. Betancourt; Ethan J. Betancourt and Ezekiel C. Betancourt. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He has been a resident of Ashland for the past four years, having previously resided in Natick and Avon. He spent his formative years in South Boston. Joe graduated from South Boston High School, received his BS in History from Boston State College, and his Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University School of Law. For over 30 years, before retiring, he was the Contracts Manager for Raytheon in Bedford. After retirement, he worked for 15 years as a consultant for the Department of Defense, Naval Division. He was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Boston and a longtime communicant of Saint Zepherin Church.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 9:30 am followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd Parish at ST ZEPHERIN CHURCH, 99 Main St (Rt 27), Wayland. His funeral mass will be livestreamed through YouTube @ GoodShepherdWayland.
Interment will follow in the family lot in Milton Cemetery, Milton.
In lieu of flowers, his family kindly suggests that memorial gifts in Joseph’s memory may be sent to the Debbie Broderick Endowed Memorial Scholarship, Cardinal Spellman High School, 738 Court Street, Brockton, MA 02302 and would be greatly appreciated.
