GOONAN – Nora P. (Daly), of Needham, formerly of Dorchester, died Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the age of 80.
Born in Skibbereen, County Cork, Ireland. Nora emigrated to the United States as a teenager. She soon found work, met her husband, Thomas, and started a family living in St. Gregory’s Parish in Dorchester for many years until moving to Needham.
Always putting her family first, Nora did not go back to work until her sons were grown and her husband had retired. She worked for many years as a secretary with the Joint Committee on the Judiciary at the State House.
She was also an active member of the Irish Social Club in West Roxbury.
Nora was the beloved wife of 57 years to Thomas Goonan, the loving mother of Michael Goonan of Needham and Patrick Goonan and his wife Kristyn of West Roxbury, the cherished “Nana Nora” to Colleen, Thomas, Ryan, and Jack. She was the sister of Noel Daly and his wife Elizabeth of West Roxbury, Carmel Collins and her husband Vincent of Westwood, Teresa O’Connor and her husband Christy of Westwood and the late Mary Finn, Gerald, Joseph, Michael, Frank, and the late infant Patrick. She was also the sister-in-law to the late Patrick and Nora Morrissey and is survived by many nieces and nephews
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury on Saturday morning at 9:00 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham at 10:00. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. (Facial coverings must be worn at the funeral home and the church.) Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
