Obituary

Stephen D Holliday, 70, of Mains Crossings Rd, North
Stonington, CT, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at
William W. Backus Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in New London, Connecticut on March 2, 1951, he was the son of the late
Harry F and Doris M (Gleason) Holliday. He married his beloved wife, Norma J
(Perkins) Holliday on November 18, 1983.

Over the course of his lifetime, Steve accomplished many things but what he was
most proud of was his time as a young boy spending weekends at the Palmer
Family Farm in Voluntown and working at Carl’s Texaco pumping gas and fixing
cars. Steve was a 1971 graduate of Robert E. Fitch in Groton, CT. After school
he attended a heavy equipment school in Hollywood, Florida to learn how to
operate and maintain heavy equipment and these skills quickly flourished into a
true passion for him. He loved every minute of digging dirt with his son Stephen
and nephew David.

Steve worked at General Dynamics from 1976 to 1988 and then for the Town of
North Stonington as the Highway Forman where he retired after 25 years. Over
the years Steve was involved in many organizations; he was a member of the
B.F. Hoxie Fire Department, past president and life member of the North
Stonington Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the North Stonington
Agricultural Fair, the Lions Club, and the Moose Club in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Besides his wife Norma, Steve is survived by one brother David (Pam) Holliday, a
son Stephen (Kyna) of Preston, and daughters Tracy (TJ) Houghton of Preston,
Jeanette (Marc) Tate of North Stonington, Kaitlyn (Dan) Parmelee of Gales Ferry,
and his beloved grandchildren: Kurtis, Jacob, Chloe, Alayna, Taelyn, Ruby,
Oliver, and Paisley as well as several nephews and nieces who were all very
special to him.

Steve took great pleasure in the simpler things in life; a hot cup of coffee, a great
meal, a road trip, a cheesy joke, and time spent with great friends. He was up to
any adventure as long as he had a supply of toothpicks and his Dunkin’ app fully
loaded. He became an avid amateur Sunday golfer but loved it for the quality
time spent with his friends laughing and creating memories.

Because of rising COVID numbers, there will be no visiting hours and burial will
be private. The family is planning a springtime celebration of life. In lieu of
flowers, donations in Steve’s memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital, the American Diabetes Association, or the National Kidney
Foundation.
