Obituary

Janet Leshyk, 69, of Fairhaven completed her earthly journey on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 with her family by her side.

Born on April 2, 1952, Janet was raised, grew up, worked, lived and grew her family in Fairhaven.

Janet began her secretarial career for the Town of Fairhaven at the CETA Program. Janet went on to become a junior secretary at Fairhaven High School in 1986 where she devoted 18 years. In 2004, Janet became a senior clerk for Wood School in Fairhaven where she worked until 2012 when she retired. Janet touched the lives of many during her career in administrative work, but she most adored the children at the Wood School and she, of course, made a lasting impression on them, too.

In her free time, Janet could be found in or around any close body of water. Janet absolutely loved the water and was a true water baby. Janet’s love for the water likely began with her trips spent at “The Cottage” on Sconticut Neck Road in Fairhaven with her parents and sisters when she was young. Janet enjoyed boogie-boarding on the big waves at South Shore Beach in Rhode Island. Janet’s favorite times include 16 years spent with her soulmate at their campsite on Snows Pond in Rochester. If you know her, you likely got an invitation. Janet spent time fishing and swimming with friends and family alike at the campsite. Janet had fond memories of time at the campsite with her close friend Debbie where they had “happy feet” boiling water on the campfire and soaking their feet. Janet enjoyed times at the campsite with her friends Diane and Steve among others.

Janet enjoyed activities that would bring her together with her loved ones. Janet reveled in time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every January, Janet and her sisters would go to Foxwoods Casino to celebrate their birthdays together. Janet enjoyed trips to visit with her childhood friend Diana in Florida where they would visit casinos and spend time in the water. Janet was a good luck charm, always winning on a scratch-off ticket or hitting the jackpot.

Janet is predeceased by her parents, Raymond Marchand, and Theresa (Afthemeades) Marchand; her mother and father-in-law, Cecilia and Nicholas Leshyk, Sr.; and her brothers-in-law, Richard Perron and Wayne Leshyk.

Janet leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband and very best friend, Nicholas Leshyk, Jr.; a son, John Steven Leshyk; sisters, Joyce Couture and her husband Paul, Linda Marchand, and Susan Duclos and her husband Dennis; sisters-in-law, Victoria Greco, Joanne Leshyk, and Nancy Perron; grandchildren, Tyler and Mollie Leshyk; great-grandchildren, Jeffrey, Elliott, and Jordan Leshyk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, from 4-7 P.M. at the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Janet's memory be made to the American Heart Association.
