Obituary

Salvatore F. Buffone 98, of Franklin, passed away peacefully, Wednesday December 29, 2021 at the Maples Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Virginia M. (Butler) Buffone, who died in 2012.

Born July 6, 1923 in Franklin, a son of the late Salvatore F. Buffone, Sr. and Julia (Petti) Buffone, he was a lifelong resident of Franklin.

He was raised and educated in Franklin and was a graduate of Franklin High School, where he was voted “Best Athlete” for the Class of 1941.

“Sal” being a member of the “Greatest Generation” enlisted in the United States Army in February 1943, he attained the rank of Corporal and served with the 86th Fighter Group in Central Europe. He was awarded the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in April 1946.

Upon returning home he started working as a carpenter, working on many homes in the area. In later years he would work with his sons as they constructed and remolded homes.

He enjoyed spending time with his family playing golf, which he did into his eighties as a member of the Old Timer’s League and traveling to Florida for the winters.

He is survived by his children, David F. Buffone and his wife Linda of Franklin and James M. Buffone and his wife Wendy of Franklin, a sister Eileen Tulli of Milford, grandchildren, Ashley R. Lareau, Brittany L. Pasquarosa, Chelsey N., Dominic J. and Joseph S. Buffone, and great grandchildren, Vienna Pasquarosa & Brielle Lareau.

He was the brother of the late Elynor P. Crothers, Ann Maguire, Mary Genoa, Josephine Pasquantonio and Robert Buffone, Sr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Tuesday Jan. 4th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Franklin at 10AM.

Interment with military honors will follow at the parish cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday from 4-7PM.
