HOLDEN___James Christopher Howarth, 69, of Holden, passed away on December 28, 2021 at UMASS Medical Center-University Campus in Worcester from cancer.
Jim was born in Worcester, on March 16, 1952 to John and Virginia (Barrett) Howarth. He leaves his wife of 32 years, Alicia (Quintela) Howarth; his sister Virginia Howarth Alan of Worcester; his brothers John Howarth and his wife Ginny of Sagamore Beach, Robert Howarth and his wife Debra of Buzzards Bay and his brother and sister-in-law, Manny and Nancy Quintela of Shrewsbury and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his special little pal, Joseph Gomes and his beloved springer spaniel Ralphie, in addition to innumerable friends.
Jim graduated from Villanova University. Jim retired from the Woods Hole Martha’s Vineyard Steamship Authority in January, 2019. Prior to that he was the owner of Dante’s Restaurant and the Dive Bar in Worcester.
Jim was an avid golfer having played golf three days in a row in late October despite the progression of his illness. He was also a voracious reader and more importantly, a very kind and generous man and a sweet, caring husband with a sharp sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by all who had the opportunity to know him.
The family would like to extend deep appreciation to Dr. Sonali Harchandani for her kind and compassionate care of Jim during the past two years, as well as all of the nursing staff at UMASS Hospital. They are all truly angels.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday January 6, 2022 at 11:00am in Blessed Sacrament Church, 551 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Masks will be required. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s name can be made to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142 Memphis TN. 38148-0142.
