CHICOPEE – Donald F. “Don” Masse, 85, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, December 27, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on August 7, 1936, a beloved son of the late Lionel J. Masse and Pearl E. (Lester) Masse Hall. He was raised in Chicopee, educated at Saint Joan of Arc School and was a lifelong resident of Aldenville. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was employed as a Toll Collector for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority. He was a longtime communicant of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Willimansett and currently a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. He enjoyed camping at Sunset View Campgrounds in Monson and playing bingo. Don will especially be remembered for his humor and being the “life of the party.” Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Virginia A. (Peck) Masse. They were married on June 5, 1954 at Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. He also leaves his five loving children, Steven A. Masse and his wife, Cynthia and Kevin M. Masse and his wife, Betty, all of Chicopee, Gary S. Masse and his wife, Melody, of Indian Orchard, Brenda Lee M. McDonald and her husband, Douglas, of Fitchburg, and Donna M. Montemagni and her husband, Jon, of Chicopee; his dear brother in law, Robert Peck of Chicopee; his two dear sisters in law, Lillian Roux and her husband, Howard, of Chicopee, and Dorothy Guilmain of Belchertown; his 16 cherished grandchildren; his 29 cherished great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. He will be deeply missed by his beloved pets, his dog, Peanut and his cat, Cuddles. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Robert “Sonny” Masse; and his two dear sisters, Joan Mattern and Shirley Fontaine. His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Masks are required for his services.
