In Taunton, Mary Jayne Ross, age 78, passed away at home peacefully while surrounded by her loving family on December 24, 2021. Mary Jayne was the loving wife, sharing 60 years of marriage to Edward Ross of Taunton. She was born in West Virginia, the daughter of the late Charles Durbin & Mary (Sims) Durbin.
Mary Jayne had been a longtime resident of Taunton. She began working for the city as a clerk in the Treasurer’s office working her way up to Treasurer and retired as Collector/ Treasurer for the City of Taunton for over 40 years. Mary was an avid Patriots fan and was a season ticket holder for 40 years. Mary Jayne was active in the union and with the Collector Treasurer Association during her career. She was an avid walker with a great group of people at the Galleria Mall before it’s closing. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and above all cherished her time with family and friends. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Taunton where she was a lector, CCD teacher and CYO cheerleading coach.
Mary Jayne is survived by her children; Arthur Reid Ross and his wife Lynn of Dighton and Terri Lynn Brune and husband Gary of Lakeville, her grandchildren; Garrett M. Brune and his wife Sonia of Taunton, Michelle E. Griffin and her husband Brendan of Norton, Stephanie L. Brune of Lakeville, Matthew Gadry-Ross, great grandchildren; Emilia Jayne Brune and Alanna M. Griffin. Mary also leaves her siblings; Duane Durbin and his wife Andrea of NC, Wanda Allman of West VA, Kevin Durbin and his wife Krista of West VA, Della Mastromarino of NC, Kermit Durbin of OH, Dorothy Kyle of WA, Jerry Durbin and his wife Lottie of WV and the late David R. Durbin, Nancy Rush and Delores Blake Dobbs, her sister-in-law Donna Durbin of WV.
A private memorial service will be held at the request of the family followed by a graveside service at St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton on Wednesday, January 5th at 12 noon. Donations in Mary Jayne’s memory may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
