Obituary

Longtime Waltham resident Wilfred (Bill) Charnley, 98, passed quietly on Dec. 27 at Nashua Crossings in Nashua, NH.

Bill was born on Dec. 1, 1923, in Waltham MA to Wilfred and Lucy (Moore) Charnley. He lived in Waltham most of his life and attended Waltham Trade School studying the construction trades prior to enlisting in the Coast Guard on Dec. 8, 1941. Bill served in the Pacific Theatre under the Navy for the duration of the war, participating in 6 invasions.

After the war he returned to Waltham to raise his family and worked in the local Carpenter’s Union for many years before going into business for himself as Charnley Construction. After retiring he became a successful real estate broker.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Esther in 1991 and is survived by his sons Douglas of Derry, NH and Victor of Marathon, FL, grandchildren Jill, Eric and David Charnley of New Hampshire, Erin Sanders and Allison Robertson and great-grandson Wyatt Robertson of Michigan.
