Obituary

Plymouth, NH- Robert Carlson Stringfellow, age 84, passed away in his home on December 21, 2021, from renal kidney failure and heart disease.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania June 10, 1937. He is the son of Clyde and Myrtle Stringfellow. After school he answered his calling to serve his country and enlisted in the US Navy. He proudly served in the Korean War. It was on shore leave in Portland, Maine, where he met the love of his life Gloria Cunningham. He got orders to ship out after two weeks, so he married Gloria before he left. He did his final years in the Reserves in Rhode Island returning home to his beloved wife and her three children who he raised along with three of their own children.
Robert loved to fish, and he taught each of his children how to bait hooks and cast the rod. Always smiling as he detangles hooks, and line from shrubs, rocks and even one time a hook in his ear. He loved go hunting in the fall. He loved gardening. He taught his children gardening skills as well. In his later years watching birds who visited his bird feeders gave him hours of pleasure. He spent hours doing puzzles which he loved to do.
He worked two jobs for many years. He started a career as a dispatcher for trucking companies. After he moved his family to Ocala Florida, he became the manage for Super Transport. Sadly, the love of his life, Gloria lost her battle with cancer in 1993. They were married 34 years. As his health began to worsen, he moved to Plymouth, New Hampshire to be closer to family.
He is predeceased by a brother Clyde Stringfellow, and two sisters Maude, and Helen. Also, his son Michael Robert Stringfellow.
Robert is survived by his children – Kathleen Backman and husband Don of Bridgton, Robin Stringfellow of West Virginia, stepchildren, Linda McCormick and husband Michael, of Escanaba, Michigan, Steven York and wife Elaine, and Gail Head and husband Jeff.
Robert has 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and to great great grandchildren.



A graveside service with US Navy Honors will be held on Thursday Dec. 30 at 1 PM at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Congress St., Portland, along with his son's service at the same time and place.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local animal shelter in his name.
