Obituary

Carl Vincent Parent, Sr., 89 of Lowell, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, December 25, 2021 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Laurinda (Mendonca) Parent with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary February 14, 2022.

He was born on April 13, 1932 in Dorchester, MA and was a son of the late Irene M. Parent. He was raised in the South Lowell neighborhood of Lowell and was educated in the area. In 1952, Carl enlisted with the United States Navy and proudly served during the Korean War aboard the USS Valley Forge, until his honorable discharge in 1956.

What Carl was probably most well known for was his long and renowned career in the automotive service industry. Carl worked at 1400 Motors in Lowell as a service manager for over 30 years and later at Marble Motors in Haverhill for over 26 years as an assistant service manager before his retirement.

He was a member of the Knickerbocker Club, the Lowell Elks, and the Lowell VFW. He enjoyed spending time outside and traveling, especially to North Conway with the Santos family. He also enjoyed eating, especially spaghetti. In his younger days, he studied photography and was an established photographer.

In addition to his wife, Laurinda Parent of Lowell, he is survived by his three children, Carl Parent Jr. of Lowell, Tina Parent of Lowell, and Darel Parent and his wife, Kristen, of Melrose; his three grandchildren, Darel Jr., Mackenzie and Cassidy all of Melrose. He is also survived by his cousin, Linda Morin and her husband, Ron, of Derry, NH; a very close friend, Kenny Corcoran and his wife, Jeanne of Chelmsford; and his grand-dogs Zuri and Kaia. He is also survived by his brothers in law, Manuel Santos of Somerville, Al Mendonca and his wife, Maria of Tewksbury, John Alves of Cambridge; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his uncle, the late Frederick "Red" Parent and his aunt, the late Hilda Haligan.

In Accordance with the City of Lowell mandate, masks are required on Monday, January 3, 2022, all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 4-8 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. His funeral will begin on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 9 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by his funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
