Hubert Ray Dickerson, 90, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Saturday, December 25, 2021, at his daughter’s residence in Carnesville, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, December 31, 2021, at Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwin County, Georgia, with the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Big Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Ike Thomas officiating. Military honors will be rendered as well. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Dickerson was born November 1, 1931, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late William Thomas & Bessie Kate King Dickerson. Mr. Dickerson served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, retiring as an E-6 after 20 years of service. During his years of service, he lived in Smyrna, Tennessee, France for 3 years, Tacoma, Washington, Kansas City and the Philippines. Following his military service, he retired from Planters Warehouse and also worked for Irwinville Peanut & Grain. He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanette Copeland Dickerson of Irwin County; his daughters: Deborah Kelley & Brien of Carnesville and Phyllis Williams & Anthony of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren: Amanda Thompson Shattles & Kenny, Dan Thompson & Sherrie and Luke Williams and great-grandchildren: Nate Nichols and Emma Grace Thompson. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
The family suggests those desiring to send memorials in lieu of flowers may send them to the charity of the donor’s choice.
