Worcester: Nancy A. Peterson, 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 24, 2021 at Christopher House of Worcester. She leaves behind 3 sisters: Mae Edwards of Auburn, Doris Hallen of North Grafton, and Grace MacKirdy of Mt. Pocono, PA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and great-nieces and a great-nephew. She was predeceased by a sister Gladys Peterson and by a brother Earl Peterson.
Nancy was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Claus E. and Siri E. (Nelson) Peterson. She graduated from Commerce High School and was proud to have earned her Bachelor's Degree from Assumption College in her later years. She worked as a secretary at the former State Mutual Life Insurance Company for most of her career. She was a member of the Holden Baptist Church and was active in its ministry. She is lovingly considered the “fun” aunt by her many nieces and nephews, whom she spoiled with gifts, outings, and indulgences throughout their childhoods. Time with family and friends was her greatest joy, especially if this included days at the beach, pizza, or ice cream.
Nancy was a lover of all animals. This love was especially extended to her many cats, but also was showered on abandoned, abused, or unloved creatures of any kind. She trained and volunteered as a Braille translator. She was a longtime volunteer with Devereux Behavioral Health Services where many children became her extended family.
Following cremation, burial will be at Hope Cemetery in Worcester. Memorial Services will take place at a future time. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Worcester, 139 Holden Street, Worcester, MA 01606. https://worcesterarl.org/[n1]
