Edward Macedo, RPh, 77, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, December 24, 2021. He was the husband of Pauline Mae (Almeida) Macedo.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Ferdinand C. and Gladys (Simpkin) Macedo, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Ed graduated from the Mass. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 1968 and worked as a registered pharmacist with his uncle at Macedo's Pharmacy. He became a cornerstone of the local community with more than 40 years of service at the pharmacy. He was the past president of the IAC, the South End Business Association, and the Men's Luncheon Club at the Wamsutta Club, as well serving on the Board of Directors for the Wamsutta Club. Ed was very active at the former St. John the Baptist Church, as well as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. He loved to garden and travel.
Survivors include his wife; his children, Elizabeth Rowbotham and her husband Jason of Westfield, and Aaron Macedo and his wife Eunice of New Bedford; his siblings, Deacon Paul Macedo and his wife Marie, and Theresa Marie Souza, all of New Bedford; his grandchildren, Matthew, Sean, Julie, Marco, and Adam; and many nieces; nephews and Godchildren.
He is predeceased by his brother Ferdinand C. Macedo, Jr.
Masks will be required to attend the services.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, December 30th at 9:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 10:30 AM.
