Obituary

In Bourne, MA, Donald J. McCarthy, Age 90, passed away at home while surrounded by his loving family on December 22, 2021. Donald was the beloved husband of the late Avis (Galligan) McCarthy. Donald was born in Taunton, the son of the late Michael McCarthy & Catherine (Reilly) McCarthy.
He was a resident of Bourne and formerly of Raynham and Taunton. Donald was educated in Taunton schools. He served his country honorably during the Korean War while in the U.S. Marine Corp. Donald worked as a carpenter for Local #330.
Donald enjoyed spending time listening to music, watching football, tinkering in the garage where he was a self styled inventor who could fix anything, bird watching, playing cards, cribbage and keno and above all cherished his time with family, especially at the beach, fishing and shell fishing.
Donald is survived by his children; Susan (McCarthy) Haigh, Paul McCarthy, Robert McCarthy, all of Pembroke, Denise Mauricio of Fall River, Robin Rocha of Raynham, Dean Hill of Carver, Brian Hill of Bourne, Roland Hill of Onset and the late Glenn McCarthy. He also leaves his brother; Frederick McCarthy of Raynham and his late siblings; Francis McCarthy and Lorraine Ferreira, his 23 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Donald also leaves several nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral home visitation will be on Monday, Dec. 27th from 8:30-9:30am. at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church in Taunton at 10am. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
