NORTH PALM BEACH, FL: Mary E. “Tina” Therrien age 87 of North Palm Beach, FL and Osterville, MA passed away December 19, 2021 after a sudden illness with cancer.
Tina was born to the late Jennie B. (Halko) and Ernest F. Claprood on September 28, 1934 in Webster, MA where she spent a childhood she always remembered so fondly and graduated as valedictorian from St. Louis High School in 1952.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Robert J. Therrien; her children, David and his wife Susan, Alice DeHond and her husband Mitch, James, and Robert Jr and his wife Jamie; her grandchildren Elizabeth (Liz), Joshua, Catherine, Whitney, Emma and Sophie; and great grandchildren Colton and Wyatt who were all loved immensely by her. She is also
survived by two brothers Paul and his wife Dorothy, Donald and his wife Jean, and a sister
Joan Claprood. Tina also leaves behind a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many good
friends.
In 1950 she met the love of her life Robert J. Therrien. He was a junior, as was she, only at Bartlett High School in Webster. They got engaged in the summer of 1952 and were married at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church on December 26, 1955. From childhood, Tina was a
voracious reader with a natural intellect and developed strong office skills (shorthand, typing
and bookkeeping) learned in her classroom studies and the part time jobs she held in high
school. Tina was a cheerleader throughout her high school years and she cheered her heart out
for a very good basketball team.
After high school Tina went to work for the state government in Worcester, MA. Following her marriage, she moved to Columbus, OH where her husband was employed. There she worked in the office of an insurance company until she started a family.
Once she and the family moved back to the Boston area she lived for more than 30 years in Wayland and Weston where she generously gave her time to support community organizations
including many that involved her children. Some of Tina’s happiest times were skiing with her
family and taking vacations with them over the years. After raising her children, she took up
golf and was very active in the management of the 9 hole ladies group at Wellesley Country
Club, Wellesley, MA. She was also a member of the Oyster Harbors Club, Osterville, MA and
Lost Tree Club, North Palm Beach, FL.
Tina’s love for reading never stopped, but first thing in the morning she would complete the New York Times crossword puzzle. She loved the challenge and the joy in solving their
mysteries. She always noted the time it would take to finish the puzzle as a measure of
improvement. And, let’s not forget the wit she showed through the poems she composed for
friends and special occasions.
Tina’s true passions were supporting her husband’s entrepreneurial career and loving and
caring for her family. Her home was always open to family and friends.
Her family and friends will miss her terribly, but because Tina has left us so many special
memories her spirit will never be forgotten.
A funeral mass will be held on January 8, 2022 at 10:30 am at Good Shepherd Parish at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 124 Cochituate Rd (Rt. 27), Wayland, MA. Masks are required in the church. Burial will be private.
Please join the Therrien family for a luncheon celebration of Tina’s life at The Wayside Inn, Sudbury after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oyster Harbors Scholarship Fund at Oyster Harbors Club, 2068 Oyster Harbors, Osterville, MA 02655.
