Herbert Troy Hobbs, 89, of Ashburn passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at his residence.
Troy was born in Worth County on November 30, 1932 to the late William Walker and Clyde Evans Hobbs. He retired from Georgia Power after 32 years and also served as local manager for 23 of those years. He lived in Ashburn for over 50 years. He also served his country with honor in the United States Army. Troy was a member of the Ashburn First Baptist Church where he was the oldest ordained deacon. He was ordained as a deacon at 26 years old at New River Baptist Church in Tifton and also served as a deacon at Northside Baptist Church in Tifton. He taught boys Sunday School classes and served as R.A. leader in all three churches. He was a member of the Bill Hardin Sunday School class at the Ashburn First Baptist Church. He also served as song leader and member of the adult choirs at all three churches. Troy coached Little League baseball in Turner County and served as a director of the Turner County Chamber of Commerce and was a former member of the Turner County Booster Club. He was a member of the Turner County Exchange club and served as President two times. He also received Exchangeite of the Year twice. He was also a South Georgia Ambassador. He was a faithful member of the Joyful Messengers at the Ashburn First Baptist Church. In 1988, Troy was awarded Turner County Citizen of the Year. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He scored several holes in one while golfing. He was also an avid Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves fan. He enjoyed watching old western movies as well.
He is survived by his wife, Martha McDonald Hobbs; daughters, Jeri Hobbs (Rickey) Luke of LaGrange and Lori Susan Hobbs (Jimmy) Walker of Tifton; son, Evan Troy (Leslie) Hobbs of Carrollton; sister, Ann Hobbs (Harold) Ogletree of Tifton; brother, Wendell (Annette) Hobbs of Tifton; six grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 27, 2021 at Perry Funeral Chapel. Interment will be private. The family will greet friends Monday, December 27, 2021 from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at Perry Funeral Chapel.
