Shirley J.M. (Azar) Roy, of New Bedford, died Sunday, December 19, 2021 at home after a brief illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late George and Hisnie (Farris) Azar, she lived in New Bedford for most of her life.
Shirley was a communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Church. She was also member of the Lebanese Auxiliary and several business associations.
She enjoyed spending her time with her family and friends with an "open door policy" and was always there for someone in need. She had love for everyone she met and lived her days to the fullest, especially when traveling the world with her daughter by her side. She will be remembered by many for her generous and kind nature and missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Moniz and her husband Daniel; her foster son, Richard Rogers and his wife Sassi; four grandchildren, Katherine, Jacob, Chace, and Athen; 10 Godchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brother, Habib Azar.
Her Funeral will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by her Divine Liturgy at 10 AM at Our Lady of Purgatory Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021 from 4-7PM.
