Mrs. Jeanne M. (Sullivan) O’Brien, a longtime resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late Captain James. E. O’Brien, Medford Fire Dept, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday afternoon, December 18, 2021. She was 94 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the beloved daughter of the late Arthur P. and Mary E. (MacDonald) Sullivan and the sister of the late Janet A. (Sullivan) Maloney. Jeanne graduated from North Quincy High School in 1945 and attended Fisher College. She was a devout Catholic and longtime communicant of St. Joseph Church in Medford, a member of their Sodality Club, a past member of the parish board as well as past officer of the Mothers' Club. She loved praying the rosary. She enjoyed traveling, always by the ocean, with her favorite spots being Cape Cod, Hampton Beach and Short Sands Beach. She was very proud of her Irish and Scottish heritage, her family history, and she held a deep pride of place in Quincy, Medford, and Boston. Although she was not an avid sports fan, she always kept tabs on the Red Sox and Bruins. Above all, Jeanne was a very devoted wife, mother, aunt, cousin, and grandmother. Having no nieces or nephews of her own, she embraced the 16 she shared with Jimmy as well as their 15 grandnieces and grandnephews. She will be dearly missed.
Jeanne is survived by her loving children; Ann Marie and her husband Walter K. Bedell of Medford, Theresa J. and her husband Michael F. Carew of Quincy, Stephen J. and his wife Lynette M. O’Brien of Wakefield, Maureen O’Brien of Medford and Edward M. and his wife Kimberley A. O’Brien of Medford, brothers-in-law; Francis J. Maloney of Quincy and Neil L. O’Brien of Kennebunkport, Maine and grandchildren; Elizabeth Bedell and her partner Jason Leto, Brien and his wife Emily Bedell, Catherine Carew, Shauna and her husband Jake Meilan and Molly and her husband Michael Colantone. She was the sister-in-law of the late Arlene and John O’Brien, the late Rose and Francis O’Brien, the late Margaret and Leo O’Brien, the late Mary C. O’Brien and the late Eleanor O’Brien.
Her Funeral will be held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, from 4 to 7 PM. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne’s memory may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215. Please also consider registering as an Organ Donor in memory of Jeanne.
