Obituary

Betty Jean Barfield Howell, 90, of Enigma passed away Monday, December 20, 2021, at the Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Brookfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Mrs. Howell will be laid to rest at Mount Paran Church Cemetery in Alapaha. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Brookfield Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Craig Howell, Wayne Howell, Mike Howell, Courtney Howell, Chance Howell and Dr. Will Howell will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Brookfield Baptist Church and the Senior Ladies Sunday School Class of Brookfield Baptist Church.

Born November 1, 1931, in Ocilla, Mrs. Howell was the daughter of the late Ruel Elijah Barfield and Roxie Harper Barfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jack Clarence “JC” Howell, who passed away in 2016; three brothers, R. L. Barfield, Hollis Barfield and Charles Barfield; and an infant sister, Mildred Barfield. She was a homemaker and a member of Brookfield Baptist Church. She was always known to be fashionably late. She took exceptional care of her husband, her children and her grandchildren and various pets that came along. She was “The Best”.

Mrs. Howell is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Wayne and Melinda Howell, Michael Howell and Craig and Shannon Howell, all of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Carolyn Barfield; a sister-in-law, Mamie Barfield; her grandchildren and their spouses, Chance and Leia Howell, Dr. Will Howell, Jacey and Chad Brooks, Courtney and Amy Howell, Scott and Laura Moore, Shelley Moore and Allison and Caleb Whitworth; her great-grandchildren, Allie Brooks, Analeigh Brooks, Jace Howell, Gracie Howell, Cam Howell, Dawson Adams, Madison Adams and Henry Whitworth; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Betty Ann Lindsey and Hollie Cowan.
