Pedro "Peter" "Fidjinho" H. Centeio, 58, of Fairhaven died December 18, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital of complications from Covid-19.
He was the husband of Jacqueline D. Burgo-Centeio.
Born in Fogo, Cape Verde, son of Miquelina (Alves-Baptista) Centeio of Brockton and the late Cristiano Couto Centeio, he was raised in Dorchester and later lived in New Bedford before moving to Fairhaven.
He was formerly employed by Massachusetts Department of Correction for 20 years at MCI Cedar Junction before retiring as a Sergeant from Bridgewater State Hospital.
Mr. Centeio was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
He enjoyed going to the gym, spending time in his media room, sharing stories with his nieces and nephews or anyone who would listen, going to the beach, long walks, day trips and the company of his dog Codie. Mr. Centeio was a religious man and his trip to see Pope Francis in Philadelphia was one of his proudest moments.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Derik Mello and his fiancée Jennifer Bourque of Fall River and Travis Mello and his wife Kaitlin of New Bedford; 7 siblings, Socorro Lopes and her husband Pedro and Porfirio Centeio, all of Brockton, Maria Jesus Arredondo and her husband Gustavo of Kissimmee, FL, Jose Centeio and his wife Sophia of Sacramento, Mia Hatcher and her husband Lee of Randolph, Christina Centeio of Boston and Mikeline Pereira and her husband Nuno of Brockton; 4 grandchildren, Sophia, Damion, Owen and Kayden; 22 nieces and nephews; and his DOC family that he respected, loved and enjoyed serving with.
He was the son-in-law of the late Joaquim "Jack" Burgo.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, December 23rd at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 9 AM.
