Obituary

Maria R. Cerasuolo (Sacco), a longtime Medford resident, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2021 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 87. Born and raised in Montemiletto, Avellino, Italy she was the cherished daughter of the late Alessandro and Maria G. (DeCristoforo) Sacco. Maria came to the United States as a teenager and lived with her family in Boston’s West End. Maria worked throughout her life, first as a seamstress in Boston’s thriving clothing industry and later worked at the famed Schrafft’s candy factory in Charlestown. A Medford resident for over 55 years, Maria also enjoyed many years working as a cashier at Tufts University’s dining hall, where she treasured her daily interactions with the students and their visiting family members. A generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Maria was an avid gardener and superb cook. She delighted in sharing the fruits of her garden and kitchen with family and friends. She enjoyed her pet cats but most of all loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.

The beloved wife of the late Carmine D. Cerasuolo, who passed away in 2015, Maria was a devoted mother to John Cerasuolo and his wife Carol of Florida, Maria G. Walsh and her husband Michael of Mashpee and Diana Vara of Medford. She was a loving grandmother to Michael and his wife Sephra, Kevin and his companion Nina, Matthew and his wife Amy, Mikayla, Kaitlin, Bianca, Julianna and Angela. She was a loving great-grandmother to Nolan, Alayna, Declan, Liam, Teagan, Cullen, Christopher and loving step-great-grandmother to Braden, Gavin, Lillie and Aidan. The devoted sister of the late Francesco X. Sacco, she also leaves many dear nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 21st from 4 – 7 PM and again on Wednesday morning December 22nd at 9 AM with a procession to Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church, 270 Elliot St, Newton, for a Requiem High Mass to be offered at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
