Mark P. Mitchell, 77, a longtime resident of Halifax, MA, passed away on Wednesday, December 15th in his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen (Pfautz); his children and their spouses, Debbie and Mitch McCormick of Plymouth, MA; Jeff and Lee Mitchell of Halifax, MA; and Stephanie and Jeff Zweihorn of Halifax, MA; his beloved grandchildren, Alissa and Jacob, to whom he was DadDad; and many nieces and nephews.
Mark was born to Harold and Lena (Munson) Mitchell in Stockholm, NY. One of 11 children, he was raised on a dairy farm in Potsdam, NY and is survived by sisters Doris Hunt of Potsdam, NY; Ann MacAdam of Sacramento, CA; Kay Ramsey and her husband Edward of Potsdam, NY; and brother Ronald and his wife Geraldine of Canton, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Lawrence, James, and Kenneth; and sisters Betty Cox, Letha Chase and Carolyn.
After graduating from high school, Mark received an Associate in Applied Science from Agricultural and Technical School (ATC) in Canton, NY before enlisting in the Air Force as an electrician. He was proud to work as a machine operator for Hendries Ice Cream in Milton, MA for 25 years, and later worked at Russo Foods in Brockton, MA and Hitchcock Shoes in Hingham, MA.
In addition to building a beautiful home for his family, he was passionate about working with his sawmill and tending to his vegetable garden. His tractors were green (John Deere green) and his trucks were red. A man of many talents, he was able to fix and build anything. He was always the first to lend a helping hand and modeled the value of hard work, perseverance, and dedication. He loved old westerns, classic country music, doing puzzles, and always had a joke to tell. A humble man, Mark led a good and productive life and will be greatly missed by all those who loved him.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
