Frances R. (Reffi) Smith, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 86 years of age.
Frances was born in Boston on October 23, 1935, a daughter of the late Manlio Reffi and Annie (Abate) Reffi. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Girls High School. Frances worked for many years at the Bunker Hill Health Center in Charlestown as a Medical Clerk. She enjoyed doing crafts in her earlier years and for many years was associated with The Ladies of Monument Square where Frances and her friends could be seen sitting out in front of her house at Monument Square.
Frances is the beloved wife of 64 years to the late retired Boston Police Detective Joseph P. Smith who passed away on May 15, 2021. She is the devoted mother of Frances Harty and her husband Robert, Wayland Police Sergeant William Smith and his fiancé Elise, and Beth Fowkes and her husband Daniel. She is the loving special Nana to Medford Police Officer Patrick, Robert, Daniel, Joseph, Molly, John, the late Cayden, and to her great-grandson Ryan. She is the beloved sister of Marco Reffi and the late Betty Hennessy and Rena Tripp. She is the loving special aunt to Frank and Elaine, Mark and Maureen, Christopher and Sheila, Paul and Patty.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Frances's visiting hours on Tuesday morning, December 21, 2021 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. (FACIAL COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED IN CHURCH). Her burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
