Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Noreen B. (Curran) Fitzgerald, 93, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. She passed into Eternal Life at her home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born on June 26, 1928, raised and educated in Ballyferriter, County Kerry, Ireland. Beloved daughter of the late Denis and Brigid (Ferriter) Curran. She moved to Springfield in 1947 where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a longtime communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield. She loved dancing, Irish music and long walks in the neighborhood. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Patrick J. Fitzgerald who was Called Home on December 18, 2013. They were married on June 26, 1954 at the Cathedral of Saint Michael the Archangel in Springfield and enjoyed 59 years together. She leaves her four devoted children, Mary Ellen Labonte and her husband, George, of East Granby, CT, James Fitzgerald and his wife, Paula, of East Springfield, John K. Fitzgerald and his wife, Melissa, of West Springfield, and Joseph B. Fitzgerald and his wife, Kathryn, of South Hadley; her seven loving grandchildren, Christine Paolini and her husband, Vincent, Steven Labonte, Christopher J. Fitzgerald and his wife, Serena, Brian J. Fitzgerald, Lauren Fitzgerald, Patrick Fitzgerald, and Maeve Fitzgerald; her four cherished great grandchildren, Vincent and Ellie Paolini, and Luke and Carson Fitzgerald; her dear brother, Joseph Curran of Plymouth, MI; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and extended family members in the United States and Ireland. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her nine brothers and her sister. Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. Her Burial will follow the Mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 421 Tinkham Road, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Masks are recommended for her services.
