Obituary

Eileen Patricia (Murphy) Slater, age 67, native of Worcester and resident of Ashland, died peacefully at UMass Memorial Hospital following a private and inspiring battle with breast cancer, with her loving husband, Stephen and children, Nigel and Sarah by her side.
Eileen was born in Worcester to the late John and Vivian Murphy. She graduated from South High School in 1972, Worcester State University in 1976, and earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Rhode Island College in 1992. She was employed as a medical social worker for many years at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester, and later at the Wayland Nursing Home and the Lutheran Home. Social Work was an ideal career for Eileen as she loved to help other people. Her lighthearted and gregarious spirit was cherished by her family, friends, and community. An avid reader, she also enjoyed spending time at the beach, musical theater, and traveling with friends and family. Eileen is survived by her husband, Stephen; her children, Nigel and Sarah; her sisters, Susan Hamel, Kathy Spencer, and Maureen Mooshian; her brother-in-law, Michael Mooshian and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral is Saturday, December 18th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 18th from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
