Raymond P. Souza, 82, of New Bedford died peacefully December 13, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of Eunice M. (Hamer) Souza.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Maria C. (Carreiro) Souza and Manuel P. Souza, Jr., he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Souza was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church where he volunteered with St. Vincent dePaul Society and Catholic Charities Appeal.
He was formerly employed as mail clerk for the New Bedford Standard-Times for 40 years until his retirement. He later worked at Building 19 in retirement.
Mr. Souza was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and he enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Survivors include his wife; his step-son, Mark Hill and his wife Doreen of Fairhaven; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca Flanders, Alyssa Raimondo, Jonathan Hill and Daniel Hill; 8 great-grandchildren, Harley, Briana, Keeira, Gabriel, Nyjah, Leilani, Dalhia and Daniel; and 4 nephews.
He was the step-father of the late Steven Hill and the brother of the late Lorraine Souza.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday December 21th at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church. Burial will follow in St. John's cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. James Church 233 County St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
