Obituary

CHICOPEE – Richard L. “Dick” Roberge, Sr., 81, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, December 14, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on September 8, 1940, a beloved son of the late George C. and Viola E. (Hortie) Roberge. In his early years, he lived in Holyoke and in 1968 moved to Chicopee where he graduated from Chicopee Comprehensive High School and lived in Chicopee the remainder of his life. He was employed as a Ground Traffic Controller at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee and was previously employed as a Security Guard for National Blank Book, now Avery Dennison in Holyoke and Buxton Leathers. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Fairview where he was a longtime member of the Senior Choir. He was a member of the American Bosch Travel Club and could often be found at the Chicopee and South Hadley Senior Centers. During his leisure time, he enjoyed walking and watching “Ancient Aliens” on television. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Doris J. (Lapointe) Roberge. They were married at the former Precious Blood Church in Holyoke on May 30, 1966 and were blessed with over 55 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving son, Richard L. Roberge, Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Enfield, CT; his three cherished grandchildren, Sula and twins Ela and Seager; his dear brother, George Roberge and his wife, Lina, of Montague; his dear sister, Lucille Millane of Turner Falls; his dear brother in law, Normand Lapointe and his wife, Lorraine, of South Hadley; his dear sister in law, Simone Fournier and her husband, Louis “Bob” Fournier; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, Roger Roberge and his wife, Loretta; and his dear brother in law, Roger Lapointe. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 20, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. Masks are recommended for his services.
