Michael J. Renzoni, 73 of Holden passed away late Friday night from brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Heather M. Renzoni; his son, Nicholas M. Renzoni; his two sisters; Barbra L. Engwall and Lu Ann Pacenka, and brother Richard N. Renzoni, sister-in-law Priscilla Tedesco and her husband Ronald of California; father-in-law, Nicholas E. Andreson of Worcester; along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Patricia Auger and Carol Lawson and brother Nicholas A. Renzoni Jr.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Nicholas A. Renzoni Sr, and Louise B. (Szuba) Renzoni; a graduate of the Worcester Vocational Boys School in 1966 where he specialized in carpentry and played baseball and Basketball under his longtime mentor and friend, Coach Don Lemenager. After graduation he went to work for Morgan Construction from 1966 to May 1968 where he was called by his country to serve in the United States Army. He did basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey where he graduated from Company D, 3rd battalion on July 18th, 1968. He was then assigned 3 months later to serve duty in Vietnam. On December 7th, 1968, he was seriously injured after suffering shrapnel wounds in both his legs and arms while on patrol in South Vietnam. He was awarded the Military Order of the Purple Heart for being injured in the line of duty while recovering in the hospital. He finished the remaining tour of duty at Fort Hamilton, New York where he was honorably discharged in May 1970. After discharge he spent 30 years in the liquor industry. Starting at Atlas Distributors, Mike specialized in design and implementation of beer draft systems. After which he became the business manager of the Worcester Lodge of Elks until 1995. Mike and his wife Heather in June of 1995 opened Mikes Beer & Wine on Route 20 in Shrewsbury where they personally selected wide variety of wines for customers and held tastings along with running a in store wine club. Mike retired in the spring of 2010, after 40 years in the liquor industry.
In January of 1994, he married the love his life Heather Andreson of Worcester at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral. They settled in Holden, where they built their own home. In April of 1999 Mike and Heather enjoyed the arrival of their only son, Nicholas Michael. Mike shared a wide variety of hobbies and special interests, including gardening, sports, antiquing, reading, coin collecting, bowling, and wood work. Mike would spend the warmer months of the year outside, taking care of his property and the colder seasons inside in his workshop. He enjoyed traveling and dining with his family along with spending summers in Kennebunkport, Maine at the beach.
His memorial service will be held on Monday, December 20th, 2021 at 12:00 PM at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester.
