Alicia Santiago, age 84, loving mother of two and cherished grandmother passed away in the early hours of December 13th after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Alicia is survived by her daughter, Magda Rodriguez, son, Geraldo Rivera and his wife, Mary Rivera. Her grandchildren, Makisha Rodriguez, Tajhi Rodriguez, Rheina Romero, Serena Viruet and Evangeline Rivera.
Alicia was born in 1937 in a small, beautiful pueblo in Cayey, Puerto Rico. She was raised amongst a big family, 1 of 7 siblings, her home growing up was always full of laughter and love. Suffering many illnesses as a child Alicia learned at an early age that God offers many blessings if you trust in his love. Sharing her love of God was one of her many wonderful qualities as well as her passion to care for others, especially children. Alicia was the most trusted and treasured babysitter, having looked after scores of children over several decades of her life. Every member in her family can recollect a fond memory of having been a child in her care or having their own children cared for by this amazing woman. Alicia was a kind, supportive, stern but a fair pillar that her family relied on for guidance, strength, and unconditional love. She was a devoted servant of God and matriarch of Esmirna Seventh Day Adventist church. She will be so incredibly missed and will live on in the hundreds of hearts she touched.
“We cry and say goodbyes for now, but we know one day we will be reunited again for if we trust in God, He will make it so.”
For those who would like to say their last goodbyes, her calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 19th from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm with a 2:00 pm prayer service at the O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA.
