Lee Davis Vincent of Mystic, CT passed away on November 26 due to heart failure at the age of 82.
Lee was born and raised in Washington, DC, receiving a B.S. and MBA from the University of Maryland and serving in the U.S. Army Reserves. Lee was Comptroller of the National Labor Relations Board for more than 25 years before moving to Connecticut in 1993. He served as Assistant to the Town Manager of Groton, CT from 1995 to 2010 where he was proud to lead several infrastructure projects like Amtrak bridge and track crossing upgrades, and a statewide 911 emergency protocols consolidation. Lee particularly enjoyed working on environmental projects such as the Groton Shellfish Commission. He was also an active member of the Groton Rotary, chairing their grants committee.
Lee and his wife Susan, a neonatal nurse at Georgetown University Hospital, created and distributed a line of infant development toys in the 1980s and 90s; and both were avid gardeners. Lee was on the board of the Tri-State Hosta Society with Susan and helped support local pollinator gardens and other green space enhancements. He was particularly proud of his own rose garden, a favorite of the neighborhood.
Lee was a longtime member of St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Washington, serving on its vestry as treasurer; St. Alban’s, Washington; and St. Mark’s in Mystic; and was a frequent lay speaker and facilitator at Memorial Church at Harvard University. He was also a supporter of the visual and performing arts, particularly the Guggenheim Museum, Westport Country Playhouse, Music on the Hill RI, and Shakespeare and Company in Lenox, MA.
Lee is survived by his wife Susan of Mystic, and son Daniel and son-in-law Stephen of Boston and Sheffield, MA. Lee was predeceased by his daughter, Lara, a U.S. Marines aviator who died in a training mishap. Shortly after her death a scholarship was established in her honor at Boston University.
Donations in Lee’s memory may be made to the Lara Vincent Prize for Original Research at the Boston University Marine Program.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in the family garden in the Spring.
