WAYLAND: Jon C Krebs, aged 85, passed away on Friday December 10th, 2021 unexpectedly at his home. He was born in Albion, Michigan to Charles and Leora Krebs. He is survived by his loving family, including his wife Evelyn, sister Joanne, six children, sixteen grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Jon had a very happy childhood surrounded by animals on a 60-acre farm outside Albion. He graduated from the Albion school system, where he played football and baseball. He attended Michigan State University and later transferred to Albion College, graduating in 1960. His first job was at City Bank in Jackson Michigan. In 1959, he enlisted in the Michigan Air National Guard, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant as a photo intelligence officer. In 1966, he joined the Corning Glass Works (later Corning, Inc.) in Canton, NY as the plant accountant. He enjoyed a 33-year long career at Corning, Inc. and had the opportunity to live in Bluffton, IN; Paden City, WV; and Taipei,Taiwan before settling in Corning, NY. He retired as an Executive Compensation Manager in 1999.
Jon loved to meet new people and enjoyed the many volunteer jobs throughout his life. Following his retirement, he was involved with the AARP’s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, the Corning Meals on Wheels, and Town of Corning Zoning Board as its Chairman. He was also Treasurer of the Horseheads First United Methodist Church and the Corning YMCA as well as a member of the Steuben County Selective Service Board, the Boy Scouts, the Scottish Rite in Corning NY, the Masonic Lodge in Albion, MI, the AFIFI Shriners Temple in Tacoma, WA, and the Albion Rotary.
Jon loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, riding horses, and most of all, spending time caring for his beautiful two acre yard. He was devoted to his large family and delighted in cheering on his children and grandchildren through their various sports, including soccer, basketball, baseball, golf, softball, and tennis. After 43 years in Corning, he and his wife moved to Massachusetts to be near their youngest grandkids.
Visitations will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 3:30 to 4:30 pm concluding with a prayer service at 4:30 at John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (off Rt 30), Wayland. At the request of Jon’s family, visitors will be required to wear masks while in the funeral home.
