Obituary

Everett “Dewey” Arthur Soares 62, of Dartmouth, Ma. entered into Eternal Rest Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Joseph Soares and the late Judith (Platt) Soares, he was preceded in death by his dear uncle Everett J. Platt and maternal grandparents, Everett H. and Bertha E. (Parent) Platt of Tiverton, RI.

He survived by his loving son Jason E.A. Soares and his wife Rachel, grandchildren Molly Jane, Sasha Lily, and Noah Jason of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; his loving son Michael C. Soares and his Partner, Brittney of Westport, MA; and his former wife, Monica Connors of TIverton, RI.

He is also survived by his loving siblings, Wayne Soares and his wife, Paula; Craig J. and his wife Jacqueline; Dawn M. Pacheco and her husband, Scott and leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his close friend, Anna Pacheco, who helped care for him and provided comfort during the last stages of his illness.

Dewey was a graduate of Tiverton High School Class of 1976 and enlisted in the United States Army attached to Company C 1st Battallion 5th Infantry at St. Louis, MO. He served time protecting our country in the DMZ Zone of Korea and was later stationed in Hawaii and Oakland CA where he received an honorary discharge in 1980.

He was employed as a machinist and a machine operator for several industrial companies in the Massachusetts/Rhode Island area and also had experience working on the Conch Fishing vessels out of the Bristol RI Harbor and also served in the US Army Reserve units dispatched from the Units at both Taunton and Fort Rodman in New Bedford.

Dewey loved music, most notably REO Speedwagon, Blue Oyster Cult and rock from that era; he collected concert t-shirts and was an avid reader of Science Fiction and Fantasy.

He was a skilled pool player and enjoyed many games with his brothers Wayne and Craig at the local halls.

He loved to fish, bike ride, and hike with his children and was everybody’s favorite uncle; Dewey had a way with children.

Dewey will be greatly missed by all who knew him, he is forever in our hearts.

Calling hours 5-8 Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at the Potter Funeral Home.

Interment with military honors will be Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. at 1:30 P.M.
