William J. “Bill” Rowan, III age 83 of Taunton, formerly of Brockton, died December 6, 2021. He was the devoted husband of Jean R. (O’Brien) Rowan for 52 years. Bill was born and raised in Savin Hill, a son of the late Mary M. (Mallett) and William J. Rowan, Jr. He served in the US Army.
Bill was a graduate of Boston Tech High School and received his degree from Boston State in 1962. He also received his Master’s degree from Bridgewater State College. Bill spent his entire career in education with the Boston Public School system, beginning in 1962 at the Mary E. Curley School.
For fifty years, Bill had been a resident of Brockton. An avid golfer, Bill enjoyed winters in Cape Coral, Florida and was a member of White Pines Golf Course in Brockton. He was also a voracious reader. Bill enjoyed cooking and looked forward to holidays and making Sunday dinners. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and love for his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Bill leaves his four children William J. Rowan, IV and his wife Christine of Taunton, Matthew Rowan and his wife Kelly of Belmont, Christopher Rowan and his wife Laura of Old Chatham, NY and Maria Malenfant and her husband Shawn of South Easton and ten grandchildren: Madison, Kara, Will, Matthew, Rowan, Timothy, Michael, Avery, Fiona and Callan. He was the brother of John Rowan of Holbrook and the late Robert Rowan and Patricia Greeley.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte. 123) Brockton on Tuesday, December 14, from 4-8pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10am. Burial will follow in South Easton Cemetery.
