Ronald E. LaPlante, 70, of Worcester, died Tuesday, December 8th in UMass Hospital with his devoted wife by his side. He is survived by his wife and companion of 41 years Nancy L. (Jordan) LaPlante; two brothers, James LaPlante and his wife, Rita of Worcester and Bruce LaPlante and his wife, Jean of Bolton; two sisters, Kathleen LaPlante of Worcester and Donna May Robinson of Millbury and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph and Dennis LaPlante and Kenneth Stoliker and his sister, Linda Brewer.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Leo and Shirley (LaPlante) LaPlante and grew up in Millbury. He graduated from Butte Jr college with a degree in landscape design. Ron was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, serving 4 years in Grand Forks ND. Ron had owned and operated a landscape business and was a talented painter. He later worked for Paxton Raquet Club, then Charter Communications as a facilities manager before surviving a traumatic brain injury in 2007. He had also worked as a volunteer for Veteran's Inc. and Habitat for Humanity's ReStore. Ron was an avid sports fan, especially the NE Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. His love of music, especially the Blues was his true passion. He was an accomplished guitarist, and began his guitar playing in his teens which brought him great joy throughout life. Ron was a great guy, good friend and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
His calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 15th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue followed by a service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be on Thursday, December 16th at 11:00 a.m. in All Faiths Cemetery, In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to, Brain Injury Association of MA, 30 Lyman St #10, Westborough MA 01581 or Habitat for Humanity, 640 Lincoln Street, Suite 100, Worcester, MA 01605.
