Gardner E. “Bud” Lakin Jr. Of Stoughton, passed away on December 7th. Born 1937 and raised in Portland, ME he previously lived in Roslindale before moving to Stoughton 32 years ago. He served in the Army National Guard and was a member of I.U.O.E. Local 4 Operating Engineers and worked for J.F. White Contracting Co. in Stoughton for many years before retiring.
He ran the Box A Round Boxing Club in Stoughton for many years and was a retired Maine Heavyweight amateur boxing champion and a professional boxer.
Bud was trained during most of his boxing career at the Portland Boxing Club. He also did some of his training in Massachusetts at the former New Garden Gym in Boston with such greats as Tony DeMarco, former Welterweight Campion of the world; Joe DeNucci, former World Class Middleweight boxer; Paul Pender, former Middleweight Champion of the World, and numerous other amateur and professional boxers.
Bud is a licensed and certified Trainer/Corner Man by the United States Amateur Boxing and a Licensed Manager, Trainer, and Corner Man by the Massachusetts State Boxing Commission. Bud was a trainer of numerous men, women, and children of all ages; beginners, amateurs, and professionals and was highly recognized as one of the most respected boxing instructors, trainers, managers, corner men, and matchmakers in New England and beyond.
In addition to his passion for boxing, Bud also loved Civil War and Sports Card collecting.

Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Parish (formerly St. John the Evangelist) Monday morning at 10:00 am. Burial Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Stoughton.
