BOSTON MA - Edwin A. Bennett, III, of Whitman died on Tuesday, Dec. 7, after an illness of several months. He was 78.
Known to everyone as Ted, he was born in Ilion NY, a son of Edwin A. Bennett, Jr., and Madaleine (Gates) Bennett. He spent his early childhood in Youngstown OH before the family moved to Lexington.
After graduating from Lexington High School in 1961, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he trained as a radiology technologist before serving in the Philippines and on the U.S. mainland. After leaving the Air Force, he worked in radiology at hospitals in Boston and surrounding towns. He then served as a police officer in several communities and later worked in business services.
He is survived by his wife, Marylou (Barrett), and two children, Kaitlin Elizabeth Barton and Matthew Alexander Bennett, both of Whitman, as well as a son from a previous marriage, Mark Kirby Bennett of Florence, along with a granddaughter, Adia Finn Bennett. He also leaves a sister, Gretchen Blair of Germantown TN, and a brother, David Bennett of Greenville SC, as well as several nieces and nephews and numerous Friends of Bill W.
Ted loved bicycle touring and tap dancing, and he was an active and valued member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Brockton.
