AUBURN: Charmon C. (Gary) Demas, 77, of Stoneville Heights, died Monday, December 6 in Overlook Masonic Home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
She leaves her daughter, Carol C. Benson and her husband Keith of Thompson, CT, two sons; David Berard and his wife Leeann of Leicester and Rick Berard of Kaneohe, HI, a brother Richard A. Gary, Sr. of Rochdale, two sisters; Wendy Kennedy and her husband Timothy of Rochdale and Janice Slaughter of Cabot, AR, six grandchildren; Ariana & Avery Benson, Michael & Nicole Berard, Matthew Cronican and Kristina Walter, and two nephews; Russ & Adam Kennedy.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alexander & Alice Gary of Leicester and a nephew, Richard A. Gary, Jr.
Charmon was born in Worcester and resided between Leicester and Auburn for most of her adult life. She was a housekeeper at several area hotels for several years before retiring. She had impeccable taste in home decor and loved to shop for new items to decorate her home in beautiful ways. Bed, Bath & Beyond, Sears, and the Christmas Tree Shop were among her homes away from home.
She was her daughter's best friend in life, and adored by many of her friends growing up who would also call her "Mom". Charmon was sweet, thoughtful, generous, and took care of people, which is why so many thought the world of her. In her final years, she was cherished by her youngest grandchildren. "Mimi" was her favorite role, and she would often refer to her granddaughter Ariana as "the light of her life". She had a new granddaughter on the way who she had hoped to meet, but will now live on through her. She has truly left a void in the lives and hearts of her family that will never be filled. Until we meet again, Mom. We will love and miss you forever.
A celebration of Charmon's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105. MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester is directing funeral arrangements.
