Edward Paul McMahon Jr., 84, of Norfolk died December 7 at the Newton Wellesley Alzheimer’s Center in Wellesley following a long illness. He was the loving and devoted husband of Sheila (Doyle) McMahon for the past 60 years.
Born in Boston, April 5,1937, to the late Edward P. McMahon Sr. and Rose (O’Brien) McMahon, he was raised in Hyde Park and lived in West Roxbury for many years before moving to Norfolk 20 years ago. Known as Edward, Ed, Eddie, or Grampie, he worked for the Boston Edison Company for 45 years before retiring. He also worked 20 years, part time, for the U.S. Postal Service at the South Postal Annex in Boston. He temporarily departed Edison to serve in the United States Navy on the USS Jacana minesweeper during the late 1950s.
Eddie worked two jobs to provide, create a strong foundation in a loving home and focused on making special memories for his family. He was a true gentleman, kind soul that loved deeply and touched so many along the way. Family meant the most to Eddie, and spending time with his wife, children, and six grandchildren was when he was most happy.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Edward P. "Ted” McMahon III and his wife Agatha of Narragansett, RI, formerly of Franklin and Sheila LeBlanc and her husband Joe of Franklin. He is also survived by his sister Sr. Gwendolyn McMahon SCN of the Sisters of Charity Nazareth, Nazareth, Kentucky and his grandchildren, Alexa, Shannon, Kiley, Coryrose, Joey, and Katie.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 13 in St. Jude’s Church in Norfolk at 10:00; burial will be private. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) at 131 Main Street, Franklin.
